What is in the bottle
This is the standard Natural Elixir tonic with cannabidiol added. Nothing has been taken out to make room for it. The turmeric and black pepper, ginger, lemon, garlic, cinnamon, apple cider vinegar, chaga and sea salt are all still there, doing what they have always done, and you can read about every one of them on our ingredients pages. If you already drink Natural Elixir, this is the same tonic with one addition.
What CBD actually is
Cannabidiol is one of more than a hundred compounds in Cannabis sativa. It is not the one that gets you high. That is THC, which locks directly onto receptors in the brain. CBD barely touches those receptors, which is why it has no intoxicating effect at all and why you can drink this and drive home.
The genuinely interesting part is how any of this was worked out. Researchers isolated THC in the 1960s, then spent the next twenty-five years asking what in the human body it was binding to. The answer turned out to be an entire signalling network nobody knew was there, running quietly across the brain and immune system. They called it the endocannabinoid system, after the plant that led them to it. We found the plant first and the body’s own system second, which is not how these things usually go.
About the dose, and about the claims
South African law treats CBD carefully, and that has consequences worth knowing. A CBD product sold over the counter is capped at 20 mg a day, has to contain almost no THC, and is permitted to talk about general wellbeing but not about treating anything. Those are the rules this product is built to meet, and that is why this page reads the way it does.
You will find plenty of places online making much larger promises about CBD. Most of the serious clinical research sitting behind those headlines uses doses many times higher than anything legally available in a food or a drink, under medical supervision, for specific conditions. That gap is worth knowing before you buy on the strength of a headline, from us or from anybody else.
So we will put it plainly. The reason to drink this is the tonic. Ten botanicals, brewed the same way for six years, and the CBD is there for people who want it in the mix. If you would rather not, the Classic and the Lite are the same drink without it.
